Hold Fast Shield Pendant

This mighty Follow the Swallow designed Hold Fast Shield Pendant was inspired by a nautical term of Dutch origin, 'houd vast' meaning 'hold tight'.

Historically, it was a command made by the captain for sailors to secure themselves to the ship's ropes or rigging in preparation for an on-coming storm.

Traditionally, there is an understanding among sailors that 'hold fast' tattooed on both knuckles means, in times of a storm, one hand should first be used to secure yourself to the ship whilst the other hand can be used to help secure the ship and the crew.

This piece symbolises holding fast and persevering through adversity whilst maintaining your principles and coming out of the storm stronger than when you went in.

The shield represents strength and protection, the fleur de lis in the centre and the crown at the top symbolise the self-authority of the wearer.

The North Star in the bale represents navigation and following of your own true north.

Made from 9.25 sterling silver and four garnets and weighs a mighty 22gms.
